Module Introduction

On Monday we were introduced to our second assignment, which starts on the 16th january, similar to our last assignment we have to present a body of research have displayed the assessment information above which shows us what we need to show etc. Also the brief below for the first part which consists of - Illustrated Initials
- Occupational Fonts
- Onomatopoeia
followed by deadlines for these pieces of work.

Text & Meaning
this is the beginning of our assignment and we have three different parts to complete in this. Here is the information we were given on our brief for this assignment.

Illustrated Initials
Select the initials of someone whose achievements you admire and suggest the identity of that person by incorporating one or more images within the shape of the initial letters.
Choose letter-forms that are appropriate to your chosen character. Consider objects/associations that might provide the images for this.

Fill the shape made by the letters or surround the letters with a graphic image that visually represents this person. Keep your image elements simple ie, simplify to single colour/black & white. Consider the development of positive/negative space realised by the addition of the image area to your type characters(initials). Your final suggestions should be presented as both a marker rough and computer-generated image.

Occupational Fonts
Think of a series of business occupations – for instance GRAFFITI ARTIST, JOURNALIST, MOUNTAINEER or whatever. Match the occupation with an appropriate font style and consider ways of rendering the type to enhance its meaning.
Draw up with markers before exploring with digital media.

Onomatopoeia
ie. Words that imitate sounds).
Selecting a suitable font, manipulate an onomatopoeic word using graphic devices to stretch, condense, bend or explode it so that it corresponds to its meaning.
For instance: CLUNK, WHIZ, POP, SPARKLE, etc.
Draw up with markers and carry out exercises in Illustrator. (This should build on work developed with Oli last semester).
