Occupational Fonts - Graffiti

I decided to do my occupational fonts on graffiti, i began to do graffiti type in my layout pad and sketchbook, after only doing brief research I went to bower ashton library and took out books on banksy and some other various artists after carrying out my research I came to the conclusion graffiti was much more than just 'tagging' and type done in different ways, graffiti is a way of thinking using your imagination to create good art.

(couple of the books used for my research)

so after my research below i decided for my occupational fonts to do some graffiti work of my own.
this is a piece of graffiti work with a picture incorporated with the image.

this is  a banksy piece, this image shows that it is as much about the surroundings as it is about the artwork.

another banksy famous piece of graffiti which is primarily a cartoon drawing, with text attached.

again a image that is much more powerful than a piece of text.

some graffiti with cartoon characters around it.

this is a perfect example of graffiti, banksy has used the background to make the image much stronger.
through this research i will go out and look for sites to place my artwork.

this research has helped me think through the design and process and also the background imaging that is going to be in my occupational fonts work.

After doing research into Graffiti, I wanted to experiment with giving one word two meanings!
as there are graffiti 'artists' and tattoo 'artists' i thought i would attempt to draw artist on my forearm as a tattoo and see how it goes.

I printed off one type of the words "artist" and I cut out the shape so i could trace it on to my arm and make it look like a tattoo.

after cutting the letters out, I attempted to trace the word onto my arm.
this didn't work very well since it was hard to hold the stencil on and write it myself. I didn't think this worked well so I tried to do it on my hand also.

this was also slightly hard because i was doing it on my own hand & i would of liked to do "tattoo" on the other hand but couldn't because i can't draw left handed, i also feel that because it was on my hand i wasn't able to do the colour properly, I would like to develop this idea on someone else or possibly do it on photoshop or illustrator and cover the body possibly, similar to some of stefan sagmeisters work below.
